Fire extinguished in Long Branch apartment at Edgewater Gardens Complex
LONG BRANCH — The Long Branch Fire Department extinguished a small, kitchen fire in a first-floor apartment at the Edgewater Gardens complex on Greens Avenue Monday night.
The grease fire began at about 7:30 p.m. as Jeanndra Walker, 60, was cooking, police Cpl. Robert Shamrock said.
Walker called police, and she and visiting family members were able to leave the apartment and wait for first responders to arrive, Shamrock said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within an hour. The apartment sustained smoke and heat damage, but the fire did not spread beyond the kitchen, Shamrock said.
Walker made arrangements with the Red Cross for shelter in a hotel for the night, Shamrock said.
Shamrock said no one was injured.
