Officer Ki Jung Kim, 35, of the Long Branch Police Department was driving south on Second Avenue on his way to a first aid emergency when a driver turning onto Second from Morris Avenue pulled out in front of him, said Lt. Michael McGlennon of the Long Branch police.

Kim, who was driving with lights and sirens on, injured his knee and shoulder in the crash and was taken to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, where he is still recovering, McGlennon said.

One occupant of the other car was also injured, McGlennon said, but details on the nature of the injury, the identity of the driver and the number of people in the car were not available.

The crash is under investigation, McGlennon said.
