ZONE - 9 (WEST END SECTOR)

FIRST RESPONDING COMPANY IS
ENGINE #9

595 Second Avenue,  Long Branch, N.J.  07740
732-229-0038     /     732-571-6555

Response zone 9 is comprised of the West End section of the City of Long Branch. This zone stretches the length of beachfront to the east from Takanasse Lake to the south and Pavilion Avenue to the north, and westward to the West Long Branch Border and Westwood Avenue. The first arriving fire apparatus for zone 9 is Engine 9 which is locally known as the West End Engine Co. and is located at 595 Second Avenue. This fire Station is staffed with 1 firefighter and responds to 950-1000 calls per year, which is the busiest engine in the city. Engine 975 is the primary backup for all of Elberon, and up to the Broadway corridor. It responds as the second engine on all calls from Rockwell Avenue and Long Branch Avenue east to the Monmouth Beach border north. In the event of a working structure fire or high hazard response, Engine 9 responds citywide. The West End section of Long Branch is mixed with a thriving business district on Brighton Avenue including many restaurants and high occupancy clubs and bars. With 9 high rise and 2 mid rise residential complexes and over 1000 condominiums and apartments, West End's 1 square mile boasts hundreds of millions of dollars in ratables and resident populations that equal entire towns like Red Bank. During the summer months, thousands of beach goers and tourists head to the beach increasing the daily life safety factors. Day care centers, Elementary and Middle schools, sections of Monmouth University, a major area hospital Monmouth Medical Center, a main train transportation complex, industrial petroleum storage facilities, are some of the special properties located in West End. Engine 9 also provides coverage for emergency medical helicopter landings and citywide water rescue. The coverage provided by the 2 firefighters assigned to Engine 9 is critical in providing instantaneous response and life safety to the most densely populated section of the city, and gives all responding firefighters an immediate, safe, and accountable fire ground operation. Also in the West End area are the world famous hot dog establishments, the original "WINDMILL", and "MAX'S", which was formerly on the boardwalk.

Our average response time ,from the time we receive the
call at our station is 1 ½ to 2 minutes.

If you have any further questions you may feel free to contact F.M.B.A. Local #68 at 732-222-0076, or just stop by the firehouse, and the duty firefighter will be more than glad to assist you!
