The cause of a house fire that displaced 10 adults and three children Wednesday afternoon is still being investigated, said police.

Four people were in the two-story home in the 300 block of Westwood Avenue at the time but were evacuated uninjured, according to Detective Sgt. Jeff Pilone.

When police arrived, the side of the garage, part of the second floor and some electrical wires attached to the house were on fire, said Pilone.

The fire spread to the roof and the house was engulfed in flames, according to Pilone.

It took several hours for firefighters to extinguished the fire, said Pilone. Jersey Central Power & Light shut down power to the home, according to Pilone. Two firefighters suffered minor neck burns but were treated and released, said Pilone.

The American Red Cross provided food, clothes and temporary shelter to the 13 displaced people, according to spokeswoman Melissa DeGennaro of the Jersey Coast Chapter.

City Fire Marshall Kevin Hayes is investigating the cause of the fire.
