Firefighters responded to an electrical fire in a two-story home late Sunday night, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:53 p.m. to a fire at 62 Atlantic Ave., according to Fire Chief Al Sico. He said the 911 caller was under stress and initially gave firefighters a wrong address.

All residents were safely evacuated from the single-family home upon arrival, Sico said. Firefighters found fire in a second-floor ceiling and thick smoke on the second floor and in the attic, the chief said. The ceiling beams in the center of the bedroom were completely burned through, he said.

Firefighters stretched a hose to the second floor and were hampered by extreme heat from the triple-digit temperatures and humidity. “Due to the high temperatures, we called in extra manpower from Sea Bright and West Long Branch. This way we were able to rotate firefighters out of the structure,” Sico said.

“The first arriving firefighters made a great stop of the fire, limiting fire spread to the ceiling and preserving the roof,” the chief said. He said fans were used to remove smoke and gases from the residence. The firefighters’ breathing air packs were refilled on the scene by Long Branch’s Rescue truck, Sico said.

As the fire occurred, a fire alarm was set off at a business on Broadway. West Long Branch Fire Department covered that call – which was later determined to be a false alarm, Sico said. All units were cleared by 1:42 a.m. Monday, Sico said.
