(In the year 1999 we conducted over 50 Building Familiarization Drills.)

Perform the monthly inspections of the S.C.B.A. (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) checking for damages, bottle pressure, & cleanliness of masks. (There are currently over 86 S.C.B.A. devices in use on the apparatus)

Created a database and a tracking system for all the S.C.B.A. bottles that we own in the city, so that we can easily inspect and test our cylinders regularly. (There are currently over 150 bottles in circulation through-out the 9 fire companies, and Law requires Testing for the bottles every 5 years)

Oversee the annual maintenance of all city owned fire units to see that all the equipment gets properly serviced each year and that necessary repairs are being made. (We are currently maintaining 9-Engines/2-Ladders/1-Rescue/1-Field Communication Van/ 1-Dive Recovery Van/1-Water Rescue S.U.V./1-Fire police Van/3-Chiefs Cars/ 1-Captains Car/1-JetSki/2-Inflatable Boats/1-HazMat trailer.)

Perform a weekly maintenance check of all apparatus  for proper fluid levels and condition and cleanliness of tools and equipment. (The U.F.D. mans 4-Engines and 1- Ladder for day-to-day operations that we inspect)

Perform in conjunction with the Fire Bureau instruction of fire safety to students and Senior Citizens during Fire Prevention Week and other special classes. ( In 1999 we covered 8 Public Schools in town as well as Nursery Schools. We taught a total of 1541 students about fire safety,Which took 98.25 man hours )

This year members working in 3 firehouses repainted, carpeted and upgraded telephone wiring at no cost to the companies) Perform the power washing and greasing of the booms on both Ladder trucks. (This maintenance must be done once a year on both Ladder trucks)

Created a catalogue and database containing all Manufacturers, Serial #'s, Model #'s, Tire Sizes, Pump Make & Model #'s, Fuel , Oils, Air, Lubrication Filter #'s, Radio #'s of all city owned Fire Apparatus. (This provides us with efficient and proper ordering of parts and repairs projects)

Assist the Department Training Division with class instruction and hands on drills. (There are currently 2 members of the U.F.D. that are NJ State Certified Level I  instructors and 4 members that are Level II instructors.)

Conduct annual training on all watercraft and water rescue swimming drills. (We use An S.U.V. that pulls 1-JetSki /2-Inflatable Boats /1-Rescue Kayak to assist in the protection of our miles of ocean and riverfront areas, as well as lakes and bridges)

Shoveling of the fire hydrants during the winter months when they are snow
covered.

Assist the public with any questions ,complaints, or everyday answers they may have as when they visit the firehouse while passing by with their children and families.

Storage of all incoming equipment to the proper storage facilities located in town.

Send out and receive all broken or damaged equipment to be repaired and account for the return of the equipment in proper working order.

Assisted the Fire Chiefs in the development of the new Personal Accountability System that was instituted this year in the department to better track our men and  comply with all up and coming federal and state mandated laws.

Individual training done on each of the 4 different Platoons, conducted by their Platoon Lieutenants. (Platoon A - Lt. McGlennon / Platoon B - Lt. Fitzpatrick / Platoon C - Lt. Rowell & Platoon D - Lt. Greenspan)

During the month of July 1999 we answered 245 calls (that averaged 8.1 calls per day) for the year of 1999 we responded to a total of 1649 incidents. (That averaged 4.5 calls per day that the public needed our assistance for whatever their emergency was.) The average response time for the above calls that we answer from the time of dispatch to the arrival on location is between 2 and 2 ½ minutes!

Developed and initiated a probationary firefighter training program for all new hires, so they get familiar with our day-to-day operations, response zones,& proficiency with driving and pumping the apparatus.

Data based & inventoried all hand tools and equipment carried on each piece of fire Apparatus we own, to make sure after responses all equipment is returned and nothing is missing ,lost or stolen. This project also made us aware of some tools and adapters each engine & truck needed to perform their duties properly.

Since the year of 1950 through 1998 there have been 51 heroic acts of bravery performed  by members of the Uniformed Division, which resulted in the rescues of victims from various structure fires. These rescues were made possible because of the instantaneous response provided by the Uniformed Division in the early stages of fire progression. (There have been 2 line-of duty deaths of the Uniformed Division members since the inception of the Uniform Division that was chartered in 1930.)

Perform the annual Hose Testing program that is required to keep our ISO rating.
(We test each year an average of 1,675 feet of 5" hose/ 14,055 feet of 3" hose/ 2,550 feet of 2 ½" hose/ 6,110 feet of 1 ¾" hose. A total of 24,390 feet of hose that was tested ,which took over 360 man hours to do!)
